November Class

November Class

“Musopoly!” shouted the masses… So Musopoly it was. Teams paired with 16 years life experience per team. Sounds fair, right? Team 11+5 jumped ahead when they hit a corner in the game and nailed every question, earning them two complete measures in one turn. But in the end, Team 8+8 gave us two extra performances at a measure each, tying up the game 5 to 5. Great job, everyone! And excellent team work!! Who knew a board game could be so EXCITING! 🙂

NEXT CLASS: Monday, December 22 at 4:30 p.m.

This will be the last lesson/performance opportunity before break. Then after that just ONE MORE LESSON before recital.

Duet Rehearsal
Duet Rehearsal

Tonight in class everyone performed one solo (some from memory!), and one duet. After that, we reviewed note values that included a dot. Not just that dotted half note we all know. We learned about dotted quarter notes and even dotted eighth notes! Then it was every man for himself on a quick game of Musopoly.

NEXT CLASS: Monday, November 24 at 4:30

IMPORTANT DATES / RECITAL

Recital season is upon us and I have a few important dates to share – please mark your calendars:

  • STUDIO CLOSED – October 28/29/30 (2 of 4 for 2014)
  • MAKEUP CLASS – Mon. November 24, 4:30 p.m. – 1 hour

  • MAKEUP CLASS – Mon. December 22, 4:30 p.m. – 1 hour
  • STUDIO CLOSED – December 23/24/25 (3 of 4 for 2014)
  • STUDIO CLOSED – December 30/31/Jan 1 (4 of 4 for 2014)
  • PIANO RECITAL – Saturday, January 10 – 3:00 p.m. (plan 10 am)

RECITAL PREPAREDNESS: I have given everyone the goal to be RECITAL READY by the week of December 16/17/18 – that is just 11 weeks away. I would like all songs to be chosen and locked in during the month of October, please. Then we can complete them during November and put the finishing touches on memorizing them during the first part of December. Technically, if you are not “recital ready” by the suggested date, you will still have 3 weeks to hammer down on your pieces, but keep in mind: 1) You will be doing it alone 2) You will be forcing yourself to work hard over break (do you really want to do that?) and 3) There will only be one more lesson before recital to hit the mark.

NOTES FROM OUR POLICY ABOUT MAKEUP CLASSES AND STUDIO CLOSINGS:

* Tuition is the same regardless of how many weeks are in the month
* Tuition includes, on average, four lessons per month (48 Lessons per year)
* We will be closed, with advanced notice, four weeks throughout the year
* If a lesson should fall on a holiday, rescheduling may be requested in advance

Make-Up Lessons
It is our policy to close the studio four weeks during the year, with notice, and these closings are not paid for by the student and will not be rescheduled or made up. Make-up Classes may be scheduled occasionally due to inclement weather and/or upcoming events. Any student may attend. These group lessons will be one hour in length and will be spent working together on theory, rhythm skills, ensemble playing, as well as performance training. Other topics will be covered, depending on the needs of the group as a whole.

P.S.: There has been an unannounced Studio Challenge gathering cobwebs in the blog for nearly a month. FREE BOOK OR SHEET for the first student to follow the instructions carefully.

Back to School Recital at the Arnot Mall

August Celebration

Robert M Sides hosted their fourth in a series of Celebration Recitals at the Arnot Mall today. Nine of our students participated with solos, duets (including a sister with a violin!), and even three vocalists! It was a blast. All the students did a terrific job and we had a lot of fun.

“Use Your Piano”

Pamela, one of our summer students, recently had a friend over to visit. The friend was being too loud for Pamela’s taste, so she said, “We’re inside – you have to use your piano, not your forte!”
