“Musopoly!” shouted the masses… So Musopoly it was. Teams paired with 16 years life experience per team. Sounds fair, right? Team 11+5 jumped ahead when they hit a corner in the game and nailed every question, earning them two complete measures in one turn. But in the end, Team 8+8 gave us two extra performances at a measure each, tying up the game 5 to 5. Great job, everyone! And excellent team work!! Who knew a board game could be so EXCITING! 🙂

This will be the last lesson/performance opportunity before break. Then after that just ONE MORE LESSON before recital.

Tonight in class everyone performed one solo (some from memory!), and one duet. After that, we reviewed note values that included a dot. Not just that dotted half note we all know. We learned about dotted quarter notes and even dotted eighth notes! Then it was every man for himself on a quick game of Musopoly.

This week the game of choice was Musopoly, a fun board game where we sharpen our skills with tempos, ear training, rhythms, note names, musical terms and even performance. It was the boys vs. girls. It was neck-n-neck all night, but in the end the boys took the lead by just one beat… Good job, everyone!

Wow – we are getting quite a snow day today! In light of that, as well as sickness, and the upcoming performance for some at the mall in just over a week – we’ve scheduled a Makeup/Performance Class this Monday, February 10 at 5:00 p.m. for one hour. The following reminders are from our policy page:

Make-Up Lessons
It is our policy to close the studio four weeks during the year, with notice, and these closings are not paid for by the student and will not be rescheduled or made up. Make-up Classes may be scheduled occasionally due to inclement weather and/or upcoming events. Any student may attend. These group lessons will be one hour in length and will be spent working together on theory, rhythm skills, ensemble playing, as well as performance training. Other topics will be covered, depending on the needs of the group as a whole.

If you are interested in attending, please contact Audrey so she can add you to the class. There will be more classes scheduled as winter progresses.

Tonight six students attendend our final performance class. Each was able to play their memorized solos as well as their duet or ensemble. Afterwards, we enjoyed a game a Music BINGO!

For this month’s class we had three attendees. First, they performed all their recital solos, then we had fun dancing the Cha-Cha Slide and lastly, we wrapped it up with a game of Musopoly where the girls just barely beat the boy.

Hopefully we’ll have more join us for our December Classes – the 9th and the 30th.

At tonight’s class we worked on sight reading and duet performance. We also looked at how to find sheet music for our favorite popular or country songs, such as at the following websites:

There will be two makeup classes that our summer students can attend if they wish. You need not have missed a lesson recently to attend – the only prerequisite is that you are have taken lessons in June, July or August.

• Monday, August 12 – 4:00 p.m. – one hour
• Thursday, August 22 – 4:00 p.m. – one hour

Our September students will begin the week of September 3/4/5. I will be sending a semi-completed schedule around in the next few weeks. For the summer students, though – please be advised that your new “Back-to-School” September schedule will begin the week of August 27/28/29. This means that if your time is changing – THAT is when it will change. I will confirm that schedule at some point before school actually starts here on August 26.

Tonight our Makeup Class was dedicated to Recital Performance. Two students attended and were able to play each of their three solos from MEMORY! They are also very well prepared on their ensemble piece, which is presented to you below. Please keep in mind, that this is just two fifths of their quintet and this brother/sister duo have accompaniment parts. You’ll have attend our recital on January 12 to hear the completed song.
